SHARING THE FACTS
My name is Alan Gottlieb. I’m the founder
and executive vice president of the Second
Amendment Foundation, a national
organization specializing in education and litigation
to inform the public and protect the fundamental
right to keep and bear arms.
Today, I want to share some FACTS about the
upcoming 2020 election, without doubt the most
important election of our lifetime.
Before he was elected, and after he took office,
Donald Trump promised to protect the Second
Amendment, and while he’s been president, he
frequently refers to this Bill of Rights cornerstone
in public remarks to very appreciative audiences.
He’s the only serving president I can remember who
makes a habit of reminding citizens like you and me
that our right to own a gun is safe with him.
Since taking office, President Trump has nominated
more than 200 highly-qualified conservative judges
to fill federal court vacancies across the country,
fulfilling his pledge to voters – and especially
America’s 100 million gun owners – to install
experienced jurists who understand that the Second
Amendment protects and preserves an individual
right. That’s a fact.
By contrast, former Vice President Joe Biden has
historically supported increasingly restrictive gun
control policies. He boasts of helping pass gun
control legislation while serving on Capitol Hill.
He brags about “beating the gun lobby.” What
he’s actually saying is that he considers a third
of the population as second-class citizens and
potential criminals because we choose to exercise a
fundamental right guaranteed by our Constitution.
He declared former Texas Congressman Beto
O’Rourke, an emotional gun control extremist who
vowed to confiscate legally-owned firearms from
American citizens, would be his point man on gun
issues in a Biden administration. Every gun owner with
whom I’ve spoken about Biden’s threat was alarmed at
such an outrageous statement. That’s a fact.
We all remember Biden’s remarks during a 2013
interview when he advised a young woman to “buy
a shotgun” and fire it in the air to frighten burglars.
Discharging a firearm in a residential area just
to scare someone is a criminal offense in every
jurisdiction in the country. That’s a fact.
Instead of offering irresponsible and dangerous
legal advice to American citizens, Donald Trump has
placed two highly qualified justices—Neil Gorsuch
and Brett Kavanaugh—on the Supreme Court.
I’ve met Donald Trump and shook his hand. We both
have ideas about where the country is headed, but
we share something more important than dreams
and aspirations; something that transcends politics.
We both have adult sons and we love them. I know
his sons are avid gun owners.
No good father is going to trample the rights his
sons hold dear. That’s a fact.
Sincerely,
Alan M. Gottlieb
