2018 Family Fishing Clinic
In March 2018 the Cayman Islands Angling Club partnered with the International
Game Fish Association to host the first ever Family Fishing Clinic supported by
IGFA outside of the continental US. The clinic was scheduled to coincide with
the BK Big Fish tournament and was meant to introduce kids and new comers to
Sport Fishing. Four representatives from the IGFA travelled to Grand Cayman
and worked alongside representatives from the Cayman Islands Angling Club,
the Department of Environment and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation.
The event was held over two days and introduced participants to conservation,
casting and safety, knot tying and then they got to fish for a bit. We were very
pleased with the turnout and having processed over 200 kids through the clinic it was declared an enormous
success. We are working with IGFA to take this clinic to the Sister islands later this year and will make it an
annual event across our islands.
We’d like to thank the IGFA for providing the format, and materials for the clinic, Comfort Suites for providing the
rooms for the IGFA representatives, the Department of Environment and the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation for
their assistance with the event. Stay tuned for more events coming your way.
