Tonjua Williams has been selected
unanimously by the board of trustees of
St. Petersburg College to succeed outgoing
president William Law as the college
president. Tonjua has worked at the
college for 30 years and will oversee the
school’s 40,000 students, many campuses
and centers.
Marlene Rose, a glass artist with her
gallery in downtown Clearwater, has
been included in a new book, Cast – Art
and Objects, that features more than 800
exquisite photos of contemporary and
historic works and reveals how the process
of casting (pouring material into a mold),
has transformed and beautified the world.
Zev Buffman, president and CEO
of Ruth Eckerd Hall, has announced
a $100,000 gift from Freedom Boat
Club, presented by club owner Glenn
Bergoffen. In recognition of the donation,
the East Side Café at the hall will be named
the Freedom Boat Club Landing. The space
will be renovated this summer and given
a nautical theme.
Sheri and Bob Heilman Jr. of Bob
Heilman’s Beachcomber Restaurant
on Clearwater Beach won three awards
during the eighth annual Clearwater Beach
Restaurant Week by having Chef Hector
Hernandez named Best Chef and Yudis
Avila named best server. Matt Moscato
was named Best Bartender.
John Couris has been named CEO
of Tampa General Hospital. Tampa
General, the teaching hospital for USF
Health at the University of South Florida,
is the area’s only Level 1 trauma center.
Couris is known for his passion for quality
innovation and excellence. He has been in
leadership positions for 17 years, where he
engineered partnerships and developed
networks.
Carol Hague, president and CEO of
the Clearwater Regional Chamber of
Commerce, thanked Peter Kreuziger,
co-founder and owner of Bon Appétit
Restaurant, for giving the opening
remarks at “Women Sharing Wisdom,” the
Chamber’s AchieveHers quarterly event
that was held in his restaurant’s upstairs
event space.
