BEACH
TOWN
By Mary Kay Andrews
I love reading a Mary Kay Andrews book. There’s no murder & mayhem,
blood & guts, edge of your seat suspense, just good clean fun. When I
read Beach Town it was double the fun because it’s all about filming
a movie in a small beachside town that reminded me of Tybee. What a
great, fun read to pass along!
Greer Hennessy is a movie location scout looking for the perfect
undiscovered beachside town. She discovers Cypress Key, Florida that
fits all the films requirements. The only drawback is longtime resident
Eben Thibadeaux. Eb, who owns the town’s only grocery store is also
Mayor, code issuer, code enforcer and any other title he wishes to
bestow upon himself. The last thing Eb wants is to commercialize his
quiet little town, but his biggest obstacle is rich girl Vanessa Littrell. Her
family owns the abandoned casino on the pier that the movie wants to
blow up for the exciting conclusion to the movie. She wants the $20,000
being offered for her worthless piece of property, but Eb refuses to issue
the permits.
Needless to say, Greer has her hands full trying to set the movie up and
keeping the director, producer and “bad boy” lead actor happy. Then,
of course, Greer and Eb become attracted to each other which means
neither one of them can see reason. There may not be any murder, but
definitely mayhem!
I give this book a solid 5 roses. What’s not to love about it? It’s all about
Tybee and the craziness of making a movie here, with all the road
closures, business disturbances, and irritated residents. You gotta love
it! I highly recommend it for a good, clean fun time!
Until next time, read a book. If it’s a good read, pass it on!
