region and the southern portion of the

We’re the right owner. And it is
all consistent with SOAR 2020.
Our forward vision is perhaps best
captured by the title of this message:
Building a World-Class Organization.
As we’ve looked to the future to plan
how the company will continue to grow
and build value, we have identified
one important objective: We will be a
world-class organization – not simply a
world-class building materials company,
but a world-class company across all
industries. To guide us in pursuit of this
goal, we have articulated our Mission,
Vision and Values.
Our mission, as a leading provider
of natural resource-based building
materials, is to provide the foundation
upon which our communities improve
and grow.
Our vision is to build a world-class
organization committed to the
long-term success of our employees,
communities and other stakeholders.
Our values are safety, integrity, excel-
lence, community and stewardship.
To further these covenants, we hold
ourselves to the highest degree of
ethical business conduct, which means
each of us is obligated to do the right
thing, must always have the courage to
do so and must expect our co-workers
to always do the same. Period.
In 2017, we conducted our triennial
in-person ethics training for all of our
employees – a refresher for some and
new training for others. This program
engaged employees, teaching each to
anticipate and think through dilemmas
in an ethical business manner while
knowing that retaliation for a good-faith
claim will not be tolerated.
Amid recent revelations regarding
unethical behavior across a variety of
public venues, including the entertainment
industry, our national news
media and our government, we assure
you that Martin Marietta holds itself to
the highest levels of ethical business
conduct.
These endeavors underscore our
commitment to the long-term success
of our employees, communities and
other stakeholders. Martin Marietta’s
transformation from an industry leader
to a broadly recognized world-class
company is focusing on nine key
attributes – People, Safety, Ethics,
Operational Excellence, Customer
Focus, Cost Discipline, Sustainability,
Innovation and Brand Recognition.
I am pleased to announce that Martin
Marietta has established a World-Class
Task Force to further develop these
attributes and to identify and implement
both short- and long-term tactics
and strategies to implement this vision
over the next several years. Moving
forward, we will communicate the task
force’s progress to the entire Martin
Marietta community.
To Conclude, Thank You
As we close 2017, I am grateful to each
and every one of you. Your collective
efforts and commitment to Martin
Marietta have led not only to great
achievements, but also some notable
recognition. For the second year in a
row, you have made Martin Marietta
one of Fortune’s 100 Fastest Growing
Companies. Forbes, too, has recently
ranked Martin Marietta as one of the
Global 2000 - Growth Champions and
as one of the Global 2000 - World’s
Best Employers! For these reasons – and
so many more – on behalf of the Board
of Directors, management and our
investors, thank you.
Have a happy, healthy and safe
holiday season and new year. ▼
