she moved on to roles like dispatcher
batchman, driver supervisor and dispatch
supervisor. Later, after 22 years
on the ready mix end of the business,
she accepted the position of inside
sales representative in the division’s
Aggregates District. She’s remained in
the job for more than 16 years. “I’ve enjoyed
it all,” she said. “This is my family
here. My dad worked for the railroad,
so I grew up in a safety environment.
I have truly appreciated that here. I do
my best to have wings.” Lostroh said
she has several goals for her retirement,
including learning to cook healthier
meals, playing more golf and eradicating

The Concert in the Quarry™ at Georgia’s
Forsyth Quarry this past May did not go according
to plan, but that doesn’t mean the
effort to aid local students was for naught.
The event was to feature performance
bands from two local high schools and
the music of former STYX vocalist Dennis
DeYoung. Instead, heavy winds, rain and
lightning forced the show’s cancellation
just moments into the first song.
North Georgia Office Manager Dawn
Wood, the concert’s lead organizer, said
Martin Marietta had purchased cancellation
insurance for the concert and was able to
offer ticketholders a refund. Then, something
unexpected happened.
“There were many people who said ‘don’t
worry about it. We want the schools to have
it,’” Wood told a reporter with the Forsyth
County News. “So, they donated either their
full ticket price or partial ticket price.”
Between donated ticket sales, donations
from Martin Marietta and others, and the
event insurance, $25,000 was collected for
equal distribution to the two schools.
Wood said the team in the North Georgia
District is excited to again host the “fantastic
community event” next year. Another
Concert in the Quarry™ is scheduled for
Saturday, April 28.
