being with family ... just beachy!
Tybee Island offers an abundance of activities besides, of course, going to the beach. The
Tybee experience includes history, wildlife, being outdoors, and a little quirkiness. Here are
a few of the must-do activities for you and your family.
SEE THE ENTIRE ISLAND BY BIKE
Rent a bike from Tim’s Bike and Beach Gear or Fat Tire
Bikes and go for a relaxing scenic ride around Tybee
Island or along the beach - it’s the best way to travel.
Remember to follow the BIke Route signs.
SATISFY YOUR SWEET TOOTH
Stop by Seaweeds (on the south end) for some
delicious ice cream, candy ,and more.
PICNIC ON THE BEACH
Stop by The Cafe on 80 Deli & Bakery (on Hwy 80)
or Tybee Farmer’s Market (at the grounds of the
lighthouse, Monday only from 4pm-7pm) for delicious
eats and homemade treats. Enjoy your oceanfront
picnic, and while you are there test out your sandcastle
building skills!
TYBEE ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE & MUSEUM
Climb the 178 stairs to the top and enjoy a spectacular
aerial view from Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse. The
grounds include three light keeper cottages. There is also a
Tybee Raised Cottage nearby showing the distinctive 1900s
Tybee architecture. The Tybee Island Museum, housed in
an 1899 Military Battery, is across the street. Exhibits cover
the time of the Euchee tribe, the history of Fort Screven,
and Tybee’s Golden Era.
FORT PULASKI NATIONAL MONUMENT
Experience nature and history by visiting this historical fort.
Discover its rich military history and explore the miles of trails
and great wildlife. You can spot the Cockspur Lighthouse,
built in 1837, which is closed to the public. Bonus: the fort
and surrounding trails are pet friendly!
MCQUEEN’S ISLAND HISTORIC TRAIL
Take a scenic stroll on this six mile trail which was built on
a stretch of the Savannah & Atlantic Railroad line and is
one of the most scenic trails in the area. The trail parallels
the south channel of the Savannah River and offers views
of the salt marshes and an abundance of wildlife. A great
place to ride bikes!
OATLAND ISLAND WILDLIFE CENTER
Walk through 160 acres of pristine maritime forest and
encounter animals from over 4o species. Toddler Tuesday
is perfect for the little ones as they are able to experience
nature through themed activities including songs, story
time, nature walks, live animal encounters, and crafts.
