America’s most beloved
and most historic Polish
American farming community
of Posen, has six generations
of families cherishing 146
years of heritage.
All across Michigan
and in many other states of
the union, the name “Posen,
Michigan” stirs up fond family
memories and enthusiastic
conversations. This is so much
so that a common greeting is
-- “Who are you from home?”
That delightful question leads
to endless discussion of family
names and pioneer life.
For all these folks,
“home” is the outstanding potato
producing community of
Posen in the heart of some of
the best farmland of Presque
Isle County.
Posen is most noted for
its fabulous potato festival the
Friday, Saturday and Sunday
after Labor Day each year,
(Sept. 7-9, 2018) but is a whole
lot more.
With a variety of livestock
and crops, Posen goes
all out to celebrate American
agriculture with good wholesome
fun throughout the three
days of the potato festival.
Numerous community
organizations provide fantastic
meals, polka music invites
both listeners and dancers,
with good-hearted folks from
near and far having a grand
time together.
Posen is such an attraction
that the Sunday afternoon
grand parade of the
potato festival is the largest
parade the entire year in all of
northeast Michigan attracting
Michigan. Posen is a scenic
section of American agriculture
all four seasons of the
year. With its dedicated civic
organizations, many community
events mark the entire
year in Posen.
Posen is a village, a township,
a school district and a
County townships of Posen,
Pulawski and Krakow are the
heart of the Posen community
today. Posen began with lumbermen
arriving from Poland
in 1870 to clear the woodlands
and staying to farm the land
they were clearing.
Posen is also a special
place with all the highways
and roads of the countryside
providing appreciation of the
farms and woodlands around
this heartwarming settlement
of Polish American citizens.
