World-class bike and hiking
trail part of Huron shoreline
The Huron Sunrise Trail is a 10-foot wide asphalt pathway
connecting all of the city’s waterfront parks with a pedestrian
and bicycle-oriented trail system.
Points of interest along the way include beautiful Lakeside
Park, with its swimming, picnicking facilities, playground areas
and a performance shell. It is also adjacent to the marina, which
It also passes close to the Seagull Point
trails. The trail hugs Lake Huron north
through a forest area along Trout River
with bridges, hills and curves. Just before
the trail continues north away from the
city limits another spur leads to the rustic
Herman Vogler Conservation Area, with
seven miles of hiking trails and a trailhead
at a pond overlook.
The main trail includes a lengthy
stretch along an undeveloped Lake Huron
beach shoreline giving marvelous views
of the big lake. At Hoeft State Park, a trail spur extends into the
park and ends at a park comfort station. The newest addition to
the trail extends 2.2 miles of pathway to 40-Mile Point Lighthouse.
The trail addition winds along existing U.S.-23 right-ofway
and through state of Michigan managed forest, before it
concludes at the lighthouse.
