DEVOTIONAL DAY 5
DURING TRIP
Journal Your Response Below:
SEE, READ AND CLAIM GOD’S PROMISES
Nehemiah and Ezra committed themselves to God’s Word, and both wanted to
rebuild the wall to symbolize their peoples’ rebuilt spiritual lives. Ezra, the priest,
came and read from the scriptures to all the people from sunrise to noon. Ezra
praised the Lord and all the people raised their hands and responded saying,
“Amen, Amen.” They bowed down and worshipped the Lord. What a sight that
must have been!
Nehemiah 8:8 speaks to the intent of bringing God’s Word front and center: “They
read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning
so that the people could understand what was being said.” Then, Nehemiah did
something unexpected. He sent them out to go party! He told them to enjoy their
food and beverages and to enjoy the joy of the Lord. They were obedient and they
celebrated for seven days. They knew that God was the winner, and that God
chose to use them to do a miraculous work!
In the same way, you should celebrate what the Lord has done this week in the
lives of those you served, your team members and yourself. The prayer of our
heart is that this daily time you have been taking will become a lifelong habit
and discipline in your life. Make it a priority to sit in the presence of the Lord
each day. He will give you instruction, encourage you and help you with every
decision that is ahead of you. He will have you bring yourself humbly before Him
as He forgives your sins. That is the beginning of growing your relationship with
Him and allowing Him to transform you daily into the person He created you to
be. Nehemiah had the people gather together again on the eighth day to bring
themselves humbly before the Lord, so that He would cleanse them and remind
them of the ways He worked through their ancestors and through them.
