LIVE THE MOMENT
“I make moments on a daily basis
because I want to know that when life
has decided it has had enough of me,
it’s gonna be because it is exhausted
from trying to keep up.” - Anonymous
Moment Maker
What a moment! You just spent a
week LIVING OUT the Gospel by
serving others and stepping out in
faith. Here’s the challenge: when
we exert superhuman effort to
accomplish something incredible,
there is a natural tendency to sit back
and bask in the glory of what we just
accomplished. As human beings, we
have a limited amount of willpower,
energy and thoughtfulness. At the end
of something big, we inevitably let
down, coast and get a little lazy as
we try to catch our breath.
Time for a little truth; you are not
leaving the mission eld, but simply
moving from one mission eld to the
next. God used you to impact a church
and a community in a big way on your
trip. If we stop there, pat ourselves on
the back, and “get back to life,” we miss
what God is doing in us. Friends, this
is not the end of a journey, but rather
the beginning. The Apostle Paul once
stood in front of a group of people and
preached on this subject.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
What did you experience this
week that changed your entire
perspective about the world?
What did you learn about yourself
during this mission trip? (Example:
I love to talk with people about
God... I love to travel... I learned
how to practically serve people...)
How will you use this experience
to inspire you to maximize every
moment and experience what
God is doing within your own
community?
In Acts 13:38-41, he says:
“Brothers, listen! We are here to
proclaim that through this man Jesus
there is forgiveness for your sins.
Everyone who believes in Him is made
right in God’s sight—something the law
of Moses could never do. Be careful!
Don’t let the prophets’ words apply to
you. For they said, ‘Look, you mockers,
be amazed and die! For I am doing
something in your own day, something
you wouldn’t believe even if someone
told you about it.’”
Let me translate what Paul is saying...
we have an opportunity to be a part
of the greatest movement on planet
Earth. God is using the local church
to transform people, communities
and entire countries. Paul quotes
Jesus when he says, “For I am doing
something in your own day, something
you wouldn’t believe even if someone
told you about it.” In other words,
God is doing something so outlandish
and world-changing that you have to
experience it to believe it.
Would you trade a Lamborghini for
a broken down old Chevy? That’d be
crazy! As your mission trip comes to
an end, you have an opportunity to
trade up. To simply talk about living a
life for Christ is one thing. To actually
experience it dees our ability to
describe it. Are you ready?
