COMMON MINISTRIES
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP
You will be attending a worship
service at your partner church. There
may be moments that challenge your
normal style of worship. That is ok.
Embrace the experience, and make it a
point to participate fully in the entire
service. Sunday morning is usually one
of your rst interactions with your
new friends, providing an opportunity
to introduce yourselves and worship
together.
THINGS TO BRING
USEFUL TIPS
Have a couple of team members
prepare a testimony or faith story.
If your team has musical
capabilities, prepare a song or
two.
If a team member is gifted
in preaching/teaching,
communicate that with your PPM
leader.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Community outreach may look
different depending on where you
are serving. Don’t let the setting
intimidate you. The foundation for
effective outreach is prayer. Spend
time in prayer before you go out to
serve. Ask God to open your eyes to
the needs of the people, and ask Him
to create opportunities for you to
relationally invest in them. Outreach
is all about spending time with
people in the community. You may
be planting fruit trees in a neighbor’s
yard, delivering bags of groceries to
community members, or going doorto
door alongside church members
asking to pray for people. The activity
doesn’t matter; your presence with
people and prayer for them will have
the real impact.
THINGS TO BRING
USEFUL TIPS
Spend time in prayer for the
community in advance of your
trip.
Learn about the community you
are serving: primary language,
demographics, etc.
Communicate with the Host
Pastor to learn about the needs of
the community.
Keep your eyes open as you’re
walking. Look for the places and
people God might be leading you
to pray for. Don’t be afraid to
mention it to your leader because
those are some of the most
powerful moments!
Don’t forget the kids! Make sure
the kids feel included too.
SPORTS MINISTRY
Sports ministry is a great way to
interact with kids and teens from the
community. Whether you are a great
athlete or not, the focus should be
on the kids. Make it fun, and go out
of your way to include everyone in
the game. Be ready to laugh and have
some friendly competition. Soccer,
basketball, and baseball are all popular
sports, depending on the host country.
When organizing a game, do your best
to keep the instructions simple and
allow a lot of exibility. See the chart
on page 28 to learn what’s popular in
your location. If you want other game
ideas to play, see our Simple Games on
page 32!
