Behind the Tape…
By Cpl. Richard Dascall
Man oh man, what a few weeks. I’m sure everyone had a great Fourth of
July, I know mine was busy as all get out. Before I get into any stories from
the Fourth, let me start by taking a second to remind everyone of the new
hands free driving law in the state. Some of you may already be aware of this,
but for those of you who aren’t, it’s really simple. You can’t have your phone in
your hand or supported by any part of your body while you’re driving. So
simple solution - get some sort of Bluetooth device. Because, as of July 1st,
your cell phone will get you a real pricy ticket if you use it while you’re
driving.
As for the 4th, we had a long day on our end. From 9am to almost 5am we
didn’t stop moving. One of the most notable pieces of advice I can give you,
don’t try and fight Ofc. Dickerson. Some of you may have met Cheyanne.
She’s all of 5’4’’ and probably one of the nicest people you could ever speak
to. But over the 4th, I saw a young man make the poor choice of trying to
punch Ofc. Dickerson. Nobody told him she’s a trained fighter, so he found out
the hard way when she dropped into a fighting stance and this poor idiot got
taken down by a girl. So if you’re ever inclined to fight a police officer, pick a
different one, because Ofc. Dickerson will absolutely lay you out.
Besides all the Fourth nonsense, I hope everyone is enjoying the weather
and making lots of money before the tourist season starts to wind down.
Another few weeks and the kids will be back in school, then just after that the
weather will finally start to cool off again. As I say every month, and as I will
continue to say, if there’s anything we can do at the police department, feel
free to let us know. We’re happy to help however we can. And also if you see
our new officer, Shaquille Jones around the island, stop and say hi. He’s a
great guy and eager to get to know the people around the island.
