Someone handed me this book months ago and told me that it was
a good read. Because of the title, I decided to hold off and do a book
review on it for the October issue because October is the month of
ghosts, goblins and all that spooky stuff. Well, it’s not exactly what I
expected. It’s not really a traditional ghost story, but it’s a darn good
read so I decided to pass it on anyway.
Em Moore is the mousy, shy ghost writer in a celebrity writing biography
team. Her partner, Teddy, is the one who actually interviews the
celebrities, and Em puts everything into words. Em and Teddy were
working on the biography of renowned director Garrett Malcolm when
Teddy tragically dies in a traffic accident. Because Em and Teddy
received a large advance on the book, Em has to prove to their publisher,
Jonathan, that she can finish the interviews herself, as well as write the
biography for Garrett Malcolm. Jonathan gives Em a chance, which is
a good thing since she doesn’t have the money to repay the advance.
Em certainly has her hands full trying to come out of her shell to follow
in Teddy’s charismatic footsteps, and Garrett doesn’t make it easy for
her. Em talks constantly to deceased Teddy for guidance, and starts to
feel confident that she can do just as well as he did. But when Em starts
finding skeletons in Garrett’s closet and the police start looking into
Teddy’s accident (which is probably not an accident), then things really
start getting interesting.
So it isn’t a traditional ghost story, but it does involve ghosts, skeletons,
and a real evil witch (Teddy’s wife). And just when you think the book is
over, hold on to your seat, you ain’t seen nothing yet! This book keeps
you guessing right up to the very end.
I give this book 4 roses, but one dandelion for some truly unlikeable
characters. But don’t let that spoil it for you. It’s still a really good read
or I wouldn’t be passing it on!
Have a happy Halloween and read a book. If it’s a good read, pass it on!
