People would be surprised
if they knew… I have visited 11
countries and worked in two
schools in Germany for a year.
I am grateful to have had the
opportunity to travel to so many
different countries in Europe
learning diverse customs and
cultures. I hope to continue my
travels during summer break
each year.
What is the last song you
listened to? The last song I
listened to was the Cha-Cha
Slide. It’s old school,
but has
a happy tune. I like to get my
movin’ and groovin’ on no
matter how funny it is...
What is your favorite movie
quote? My favorite movie
quote is from the Pursuit of
Happiness. “Don't ever let
somebody tell you
that you can't do
something.”
If you
could go
anywhere
in the world
where would
you go and
why? If I could
go anywhere in
the word I would go
to Bali, Indonesia. I would
love to explore the
ancient
temples, palaces, and culture.
It looks like one of the most
beautiful islands in the world
and I would like to experience
it firsthand.
If you were a kitchen
appliance what would you be
and why? If I was a kitchen
appliance I would hands
down be a coffee pot.
Cold coffee, warm coffee,
flavored coffee...it’s all
delicious and keeps my
energy level up enough to
match first graders.
Who is your favorite superhero?
My favorite superhero is Iron
Man. He is forever learning how
to improve, knows it’s cool to use
your brain, and he is incredibly
witty which makes things fun.
If you could be on a TV game
show which show would it be?
Minute to Win It of course!
The games are simple yet
challenging, they’re quick paced,
the competition probably has the
same abilities that I do, and it’s
anybody’s guess who will win.
Best piece of advice you’ve
ever received? “Do more of what
makes you happy.” Teachers work
extremely hard every day to make
learning exciting and they play
an important role in a child’s life.
When you give of yourself all day, it
is always important to remember
to keep laughing and take up
hobbies and activities that feed
your own soul too.
What are some fun ways that
you use to teach your students?
First graders do not have an
abundance of background
knowledge, so I try to help them
experience what they are learning.
For example, we are learning
about seasons and weather right
now so our class went outside
to explore the cloud patterns.
While laying on the ground and
watching the clouds, we discussed
their shapes and wrote about our
observations during writing time.
Does technology make
teaching more simple or difficult?
Technology is a wonderful tool
in teaching. Students are hardwired
for technology input and
catch on rather quickly to a
device or online program. With
this said, there is absolutely no
replacement for a teacher’s heart
and ability to connect with kids on
a personal level, so I will choose a
teacher over technology any day.
