Janel Harris was honored as the
Nixa Public Schools Volunteer
of the Year for her work with
Care to Learn. Janel not only serves
on the advisory council for Care To
Learn-Nixa, she is also co-director of
the weekend food bag program and
serves on the Boots & Bling planning
committee.
Janel has been instrumental to the
success of the Care To Learn-Nixa
chapter. When something needs to be
done she is often the first to volunteer
her time and effort. As co-director of
the weekend food bag program, Janel
is responsible for organizing at least
twenty volunteers for each food bag
packing date as well as food bag delivery
to buildings throughout the district
every week.
Janel also works long hours helping
with the annual Boots & Bling fundraising
event, which has raised over
$100,000 for Care to Learn Nixa since
its start three years ago.
“Care To Learn is important to me
because no matter what a family’s situation
is, a child has no control over it.
If there is no food, they can’t eat. They
can eat at school during the week
and we can give them food for the
weekend! We just want to help set the
students up for success!” stated Harris
