COLOR COMBO
This penthouse condo (OPPOSITE) features 4300 square feet of living space
complete with expansive views and fantastic natural light. Combining the
homeowners’ varied design aesthetics, natural tones are accented with pops
of color. “The condo is owned by a wonderful couple and the husband likes
bold and bright colors so this wall is the perfect way to blend their two design
preferences together,” explains Walter, who was the lead designer on this
particular unit. Art by local artist Anna Rac hangs on the brightly colored walls
and captures the hues of the Gulf of Mexico and the Southwest Florida sky. The
interesting ceiling details were designed pre-construction and are illuminated
by recessed lighting. The Bernhardt sofa is covered in a woven faux organic
linen and silk blend with silver and blue pillows. The table, a new addition to
the Vanguard lineup, is topped with an attractive art glass bowl.
CURVACEOUS KITCHEN
Here (LEFT), the layout presented
a challenge. “We had to work
around a curved wall. While it’s
beautiful, it meant there was a
space issue between the island
and the wall. I didn’t want to
add another table as there was
already a dining room table
nearby, but to leave it completely
open would have created the
feeling of an unfinished room.”
Walter explains. Her solution
was to create a larger island that
curved with the wall creating
an attractive and interesting
element in the kitchen. Above the
island, the pendant lights by Tech
Lighting also follow the curve
of the island for consistency.
The owners now have more
functional seating and prep
space in an area of the home they
frequently use for entertaining.
Espresso cabinets topped with
quartz are complemented by the
artistic backsplash.
PEACEFUL PERFECTION
In the next unit (RIGHT), the deep blue walls and ceiling in the master
bedroom provides a dramatic backdrop. “This room is interesting because it’s
long and deep and the focal point is the back wall. We needed to add interest
through depth and dimension, so we used color to achieve this,” says Walter.
Texture was added to the walls through grasscloth in the niche behind the
bed. The custom nightstands from Vanguard with painted drawer fronts add
a unique pop. Lighter drapes with a tone on tone embroidered weave enhance
the custom faux silk pillows in a graphic print. The modern ceiling fan from
Minka Aire is a fun element in this comfortable room.
