Amazing Azaleas
Filling our downtowns, villages, and front yards
with flowers, azaleas enchant our springtime.
Check out the azaleas growing parallel with the
train tracks in downtown Southern Pines which
flourish in uninterrupted masses of all shapes and
colors from pinks, to lavenders, whites, and reds.
From the Village of Pinehurst to Cameron and all
Moore County towns in between, azaleas steal the
show.
Enjoying filtered sunlight, azaleas do well in
our acidic soil that is neither too wet nor too
dry; they like the soil to be just right. Azaleas are
evergreen meaning their leaves stay green all year
long; however their flowers only bloom in spring;
certain varieties re–bloom in fall. Easy to grow,
these perennials originating from Japan remain a
gift for all to enjoy.
The wild, native azaleas growing along the
roadside in spring are super neat to notice. Native
azaleas are deciduous and favor our beloved
honeysuckle. As you drive down the country
roads, be on the look out for the pink blossoms of
the wild azalea. ☐

Berkley Park
Under the towering oaks and pines, the little
Berkley Park rests while waiting for the children
to come and play. Situated across town in
Aberdeen, this simple park became a new one
for us to visit.
Fenced in on 3 sides to keep the little ones
safe, the park houses a super cute gazebo and
fun playground ready to host your next play
date, b’day party, or a simple chance to stretch
your legs. ☐
