likely many other practitioners
who treat chronic pain) had been
asked by patients what other alternatives
there were? This was a
difficult discussion as primarily
the patients who were on opioids
had tried and failed all of the other
therapies. It was also unexplored,
a deep dive into the CBD
market revealed no significant
attempts to add a “medical
touch” to the CBD. We were
well versed in alternative therapies
and natural substances that
are well vetted and have shown
benefit in various forms of pain
syndromes. We felt that we could
leverage the benefit of CBD and
have additive, if not synergistic
benefit, with many different and
purposeful medications. Lastly, it
fit the demand. In the eyes of so
many acute and chronic pain patients,
there was not the desire, or
want of the potential cognitive
side effects of THC. CBD
sourced with the array of medical
additives for pain allowed them
to continue to work, interact with
their family, and function without
cognitive side effects; this
was paramount to both patient
and physician.
In the ensuing months, Mr. Bradley
and the doctors met and added
Jeff Schaeffer, an insider in
the medical marijuana business
and creator and manager of
PARC dispensary and Proathlete/
pro-cannabis charity. Physicians
Choice CBD was created
as a brand with the proprietary
blend of various vitamins and
nutraceuticals in each of the different
lines of CBD. Both physicians
realized quickly, what was
initially a spark of an idea, had
taken on a life of its own due to
the demand for a more medical
approach to CBD and increasing
research showing benefit of the
endocannabidiol system.
With research, development and
testing completed last year, the
group settled on six initial lines
of CBD products which are
sourced in Colorado and extracted
in Washington: Inflammatory
pain, Nerve pain, Migraine and
Sleep, and Wellness capsules,
with a separate CBD Joint Pain
cream, each with their own proprietary
blend of vitamins, minerals
and homeopathic medicines
added to their full spectrum CBD
blend. To date, they have successfully
treated the spectrum of
pain disorders from complex
rheumatologic pain, neuropathic
pain, spine pain cancer pain, fibromyalgia,
complex headaches,
and degenerative arthritic pain.
Dr’s Grove and Kubitz feel confident
that we are just starting to see
the medical application of CBD
and the endocannabidiol system
leveraged more and more in various
medical fields including Neurology
and Endocrine. Dr. Grove
opined, “We are more and more
aware now of the potential for
medical and behavioral risk factors
than ever before. The medical community
and patients at large are
seeing the potential and real consequences
of long term opioid use
and long term benzodiazepine use,
and certainly their concomitant administration.
I still prescribe opioids
for severe pain
and feel it has a real
place in the general
armamentarium of
pain therapies, but
CBD has the potential to
address many of these
issues without the lingering
issues of dependency,
abuse and addiction.”
