The population of Hobe Sound is about
14,300, recent census data shows. But
that number jumps up by about 30
percent during winter months as the
“snowbirds” appear from the north,
according to local Realtor and Keyes
Company Manager, Tom Whitehouse.
With its numerous public and private
boat docks along the waterway, Hobe
Sound is a hub for many boating
enthusiasts. It also boasts some of the

from a wide selection of imported wines

During the land boom of the 1920’s,
Hobe Sound was renamed Picture City by
the Olympia Improvement Corporation
with plans for the area to become a
new Hollywood. However, in 1928, after
a devastating hurricane, the name was
restored to Hobe Sound. Along with street
names, some lampposts still remain today.
