CIVIC & WORSHIP
A major component of Hobe Sound’s
small-town feel is the vast community
involvement. A variety of civic organizations
and clubs play an important role in
establishing and enhancing Hobe Sound’s
character and vitality.
One of these organizations is the General
Federation of Women’s Club’s Hobe Sound
chapter; whose mission is to raise funds
for scholarships and to emphasize the
importance of volunteerism. Members
offer their experience and time to various
community service programs, including the
arts, conservation, education, home life,
international outreach and public issues.
Chartered in 1938 and still making positive
changes is the Banner Lake Club, which
has an ongoing goal to improve the quality
of life for residents who require income
assistance. Its community center serves as
a food pantry and soup kitchen on Fridays,
as well as a senior meal program site on
weekdays. Moreover, the club hosts an
after-school and summer program called
BLAST (Banner Lake After School Time) for
students ages 5-18. Participants engage
in homework hour, tutoring, art classes,
soccer, dance classes and other enrichment
activities.
Other noteworthy community contributions
and projects include the Apollo School
Foundation’s work to acquire and
