TASK 4
Perimeter and Area
Student learning targets for this task include being able to
explain the area and perimeter formula and use the formula to
solve problems.
Your school has just created a new playground
The picture to the right shows part of the new playground.
The new playground space has a length of 8 yards
and an area of 48 square yards. Attached to the
playground is a square sandbox. The width of the
sandbox is half the width of the playground.
Task 1: You were wondering about how much space the
sandbox takes up. What are the steps that you could follow to
nd the answer to your uestion Use the space provided to
show the steps you would take to arrive at your answer and
show your thinking.
Task 2: In the same class, Sadie computes the perimeter of the playground
by adding the length, and width, and doubling this sum. Eric computes the
perimeter of the playground by doubling the length, doubling the width, and
adding the doubled amounts.
