‘We’re Choosing to be
New Employer Brand, ONE, to Debut on October 14
Greg Haiges steps away, looks to the ground and, with a quick swipe, runs his
hand over the dusty leg of his jeans. He composes himself a moment, then
steps forward again and looks directly into the camera. With a deep breath, he
answers the question the only way he knows how – honestly.
“We’re all compassionate,” he says. “We’re all driven.”
A concrete salesman based in Lakewood, Colorado, Haiges has a firm handshake
and a knack for storytelling. He’s been with Martin Marietta for years and eagerly
serves as a company ambassador whether he’s in the field or in the community. He
doesn’t know it before the camera crew meets him at Spec Agg Quarry on a late
summer morning, but his brief description of what makes Martin Marietta’s people
special falls directly in line with the ideas of ONE, the company’s new employer
brand.
“ONE is really about all of us,” says Senior Vice President of Sustainability and
Communications Dana Guzzo, one of several company leaders tasked with making
sure the concepts of the brand are effectively communicated to every employee.
“We have great people at Martin Marietta and when you put all those great people
together, with their special skills and talents, you get something powerful. Together,
the Martin Marietta brand and the ONE brand represent all that’s special about
this company.”
Set to debut on Oct. 14, ONE is the result of months of effort by the World Class
Task Force’s People Team. Seeking to understand exactly what elements of the
company, the work, and the industry truly speak to employees, the team, together
with an outside firm, polled scores of Martin Marietta people from all over the
country, including more than 165 hourly and salaried employees and multiple
executives, division presidents, vice president-general managers and HR/safety
managers. The feedback became the base upon which ONE was built.
