Air Force Engineers
Visit Midlothian
Employees at the Midlothian Cement
Plant in Texas recently hosted a group
of engineers from the United States
Air Force.
“We were extremely happy to host
them,” said the site’s HR Administrator
Debbie Theisen, who helped organize
the event.
The 822nd Civil Engineer Flight from
the National Air Station Joint Reserve
Base in Fort Worth, Texas, toured the
facility with Plant Manager Ricardo
Del Valle Favela, who also offered a
detailed presentation about the plant’s
processes.
“I was impressed with their desire
to learn more about building materials
manufacturing,” Del Valle Favela said.
“For me, it was an honor to be able to
participate in this tour and help out the
people who keep us safe.”

Hickory Quarry Control Person Anthony
“Double A” Ager celebrated 40 years of
service with Martin Marietta on Nov. 19.
Ager has held a number of positions during
his career, including heavy equipment
operator, scale person, QC tech and
leadperson. He has worked in several
different locations over the years, but has
spent his days at Hickory since starting
there in 2013. Plant Manager Brian
Hamrick spoke fondly of Ager. “Anthony
has a great track record regarding safety,”
he said. “He also adds to the team by
always being able to maintain a positive
attitude, even through adverse conditions.”

Castle Hayne Employees
Celebrate Combined
136 Years of Service
“It is a rare occurrence when you have
the pleasure to work with three men
with a total of 136 years of marine
limestone quarry experience,” said
David Wood, plant manager at Castle
Hayne Quarry in North Carolina.
Incredibly, all three employees started
at the same quarry where, nearly
50 years later, they still work together.
Jimmy Loftis, Mal “Darnell” Hand
and Johnnie Koen were honored at a
recent Castle Hayne safety dinner.
Hand is celebrating 46 years of
service, while Koen and Loftis are celebrating
45 years each, Wood said.
“They have taught the crew and me
what it is to be a dedicated Martin
Marietta employee,” Wood said while
praising all three men.
Martin Marietta has been named
an Adoption Advocate by the Dave
Thomas Foundation, the only public
nonprofit charity in the country
focusing exclusively on foster care
adoption. Senior HR Specialist
Angela Townsend said the
recognition is largely the result of
the company’s Adoption Assistance
Program, which provides financial
reimbursement and paid time off
to employees seeking to adopt
a child. “Several years ago, we
determined this was an important
benefit to provide our people,” she
said. “We’re honored to be seen
as one of the companies with more
innovative policies in this area. We
still have a long way to go, but we’re
thankful for the recognition.”
