Martin Marietta Earns Spot on
The Dallas Morning News’
Top 100 Places to Work List
F or the second time this year,
Martin Marietta has been named
as a top employer in a major
metropolitan area.
In November, the company was
selected for inclusion on The Dallas
Morning News’ Top 100 Places to Work
list, a ranking that highlights the best
employers in the 10 counties surrounding
Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). The
recognition comes just months after the
Denver Post named the company to its
list of Top Workplaces of 2019.
“I’ve always admired the companies
named as the Top 100 Employers in
DFW and have always enjoyed learning
about what matters most to the employees
at those companies,” said Southwest
Division President Ron Kopplin.
“What I realized early on was that these
top-performing companies share many
of our same values. For that reason, I
was not surprised that Martin Marietta
was one of only two manufacturing
companies highlighted this year.”
The ranking, determined solely by
an extensive employee survey focused
on various elements of workplace
culture, put Martin Marietta at the
#25 spot in the news outlet’s “large
company” category. The company’s
ranking reflects employee opinions
from DFW operations in both the
Southwest and Cement and Southwest
Ready Mix divisions.
“I’m proud to be a part of a team
that has been recognized as a top place
to work,” said Cement and Southwest
Ready Mix Division President Kirk
Light. “This is truly a reflection of the
great culture our employees help
create every day.”
Vice President of Human Resources
Jill Reeder, who oversees HR for both
divisions and who, along with General
Manager Oliver Brooks, spearheaded

the company’s efforts to provide
employees with the Top 100 survey
information, said the fact that the
ranking is based on employee opinion
makes it all the more meaningful.
“We’re confident that our people
have long understood that we want
them to be safe and that we want them
to act ethically. This recognition tells
us that they also understand that we
want them to be engaged,” Reeder said.
“All of our employees – regardless of
responsibility or experience – strive to
create a positive working environment.
This recognition tells us that those
efforts are having an impact.”
Reeder believes several initiatives put
into place in recent years played a role
in the employees’ positive perceptions,
including an area-wide push for senior
management to be more responsive to
employee concerns.
“Two years ago, we conducted our
own employee engagement survey and,
based on that feedback, we’ve taken
several steps to make sure our people
know that their voices are always
heard,” she said.
Webb Road Ready Mix Plant Supervisor
Artis White agreed that employee
engagement, communication and other
elements of the workplace environment
are incredibly valuable, but said safety
– as it is for so many across the company
– remains the most important aspect of
his professional and personal life.
“I taught my daughter how to drive
safely using the training system I
learned at Martin Marietta,” he said.
“When you adopt safety as a culture, it
ends up touching the lives of those who
matter most to you. That’s something
I’ll pass on to generations of my family
and I have Martin Marietta to thank.” ▼
