Joshua Cockrell
What is your business/career?
I am a full-time agent with Aflac. I work with businesses all
around WNC and some even further to give them solutions
for their business and employees. I got into Aflac because of
the stories from policyholders and how Aflac has helped them
through desperate and bad times.
When is the last time you danced?
This year we had a 20’s party for Aflac. It was the whole NC
territory so it wasn’t small. We all wore 20’s attire and it was a
bit like being in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
What is your biggest fear?
I would say my biggest fear is losing. Which is why I am always
trying my best to be successful at whatever I am trying to
accomplish in life. But no one wins every battle, so when I do
“lose” I make sure I learn from that situation.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My career and how far I have taken it in such a short amount
of time. Selling insurance was not my plan. My life plan was
canceled after an intense injury to my knee occurred while
playing football for Western. I planned on taking my Criminal
Justice degree and enlist in the military with the intent of
coming out with a career in government. Clearly, it didn’t work
out that way. I spent some time getting beaten down and
used and going unappreciated working for Wal-Mart before
I realized I was worth more and wanted more. That’s when a
friend of mine reached out to me and talked to me about Aflac.
I loved everything I was hearing and I went for it. I have learned
that if you love what you do then you will work 100 times
harder at it. This company has provided me with opportunities
that no other company would. They appreciate my efforts. my
determination and my willingness to go above and beyond.
They recognize my hard work, and that by itself makes waking
up every day and doing what I do even better.
What or who makes you laugh the most?
Myself. I know that might seem weird but I just like to have
fun. No matter how serious or bad the situation I will always
try to make myself and the people around me smile. The
reason being is we control our own happiness so I feel that
smiling and trying to be happy is the best way to do that.
What is the one thing about you that people notice first?
That’s hard to say. I try not to think about what other people
notice or say about me, but if it was someone that was around
me for a day I believe they would say I am a very high strung
person. I have a lot of energy and typically put that energy into
what I’m doing. I think that goes back to my competitiveness.
What’s your life motto?
To be “relentless”. It’s a motto that I have used through college
football being a smaller player and people always doubting me.
I have continued it into my normal life to make sure I am always
working to my best ability through the toughest times. Be
relentless, never give up, never give in, never doubt yourself, be
persistent in your drive to succeed.
