There are two types of mentorship: site-based,
where Bigs meet with Littles at school to assist with
schoolwork and the more popular, community-based,
where (with the parent’s approval) Bigs and Littles get
active in the community. Whether it’s playing sports,
making arts and crafts, or attending a live event together,
the community-based mentorships make a big impact on
children’s lives.
You will do stuff you’ve never done before and
experience stuff too,” says Maddie. Currently holding rank
as her ‘favorite experience’…a special trip to Hilton Head
Island with Martha. This was the fist time Maddie had ever
seen the ocean. “It was really fun!” Maddie says.
There are ways to support BBBS without becoming a Big. “All nonprofits are really struggling
financially,” Martha explains. “We do have several fundraisers throughout the year. Our biggest fundraiser is Bowl
for Kids Sake. We’re always looking for individual sponsors, corporate sponsors, small business sponsors…people
that love kids that would like to see us continue making a difference in a child’s life.”
