Red Sox Foundation Presents College Scholarships to Lee County Seniors
For the fifth straight year, 13 high school seniors, one from each of the 13
public high schools in Lee County, will be presented with $5,000 college
scholarships by the Red Sox Foundation, the ball club’s official team
charity. The Red Sox, in partnership with the Foundation for Lee County
Public Schools, Inc., will recognize the recipients in a pregame ceremony
at JetBlue Park on March 8. The funds are raised from proceeds from the
annual “Swings For The Sox” Charity Golf Tournaments.
“We are grateful to see the funds from our annual golf tournament
awarded locally to our promising students as these are the students
who will be our community’s future leaders,” said the Red Sox FL
Business Operations Team. “With a strong fan base in southwest
Florida, we’re able to utilize that to enhance our community to better
serve those around us.”
What Else is
Going on at
JetBlue Park?
In addition to serving as the spring home for
Red Sox baseball, JetBlue Park has become
a popular locale for other non-sports related
events. While parking lots are changed into
six soccer fields that see daily use for almost
10 months a year, JetBlue Park and the
surrounding Fenway South facilities transform
into a gathering spot for a wide range of
activities.
For the past eight years, the park has served
as the ideal venue for carnivals, a weekly
farmers market and car shows, as well as more
intimate gatherings such as business meetings,
weddings and private events. On April 4, the
Red Sox will partner with Gulf Coast Humane
Society to host the Fast and Furriest 5k race.
Then on April 18, Fenway South will host the
South Eastern Guide Dogs Walkathon.
