One of the Red Sox’ top power-hitting prospects is Josh Ockimey, who
spent the entire 2019 season with Triple-A Pawtucket and hit a career-high
25 home runs, second most among Sox minor leaguers. The left-handed
hitter led Boston’s farm system with 82 walks, batting .204 with an .811
OPS. Selected by Boston in the 2014 June Draft, Ockimey has recorded
a .360 on-base percentage in 579 career minor league games, including
marks of .367 in 2016, .385 in 2017, .356 in 2018, and .353 in 2019. He
has increased his slugging percentage from each season to the next, most
recently from .455 in 2018 to .459 in 2019.
ROBINSON LEYER | RHP | #77
BORN: March 13, 1993 in El Seibo, DR
Robinson Leyer split the 2019 season between the Red Sox and Mariners
organizations, posting a 5.24 ERA over 40 appearances (one start). The
right-hander was signed by the Red Sox in June, and in his final 14 outings
of the season—all with Double-A Portland—he recorded a 1.99 ERA while
limiting opponents to a .133 batting average with zero home runs allowed.
Signed by the White Sox as a minor league free agent in 2012, Leyer is
28-43 with a 4.24 ERA in 236 career minor league appearances (84 starts)
between the White Sox (2012-17), Reds (2018), Mariners (2019), and Red
Sox (2019) organizations.
BOBBY POYNER | LHP | #66
BORN: December 1, 1992 in West Palm Beach, FL
Bobby Poyner has had success against Major League hitters without
featuring an overpowering fastball. Selected by the Red Sox in the 14th round
of the 2014 June Draft, he made his major league debut in 2018 and has
posted a 4.50 ERA in 33 career appearances with the club. He has held major
league left-handed hitters to a .184 batting average (7-for-38) and zero home
runs, and last September lefties were 0-for-10 against Poyner. In 2019 he
made 13 relief appearances over three stints with Boston but spent most of
the year with Pawtucket, recording a 3.77 ERA with 26 scoreless outings.

César brings a valuable right-handed bat to the Red Sox’ outfield depth chart.
He has excelled in his 403 career games at the Triple-A level, hitting .292 with
a .391 on-base percentage and 192 stolen bases. He also has major league
experience, appearing in 61 games with the Los Angeles Angels (2017, ’19),
Tampa Bay Rays (2017), and Miami Marlins (2019). In 2019, Puello recorded
on-base percentages of .431 with Triple-A Salt Lake and .500 with the Angels
before being traded to the Marlins on June 18.
