Regarded by Baseball America as the
Red Sox’ top pitching prospect, Bryan
Mata will be the youngest player in Red
Sox camp this spring. Only 20 years
old, he made 21 starts between High-A
Salem and Double-A Portland in 2019,
going 7-7 with a 3.43 ERA. The righthander
posted a 1.75 ERA and held
opponents to a .201 batting average in
10 starts with Salem, before finishing
the final two months of the season with
Portland. Following the regular season,
he appeared in eight games for Peoria
in the Arizona Fall League. Signed by
Boston as an international free agent in
2016, Mata has appeared in 69 minor
league games (all starts) and is 22-20
with a 3.40 ERA. In his minor league
career, he has held right-handed hitters
to only a .210 batting average and a
.578 OPS.
Daniel McGRATH
LHP | #85 | Born: 7/7/94
in Melbourne, Australia
The only player in Red Sox camp born
in Australia will be left-hander Daniel
McGrath. Signed by Boston out of the
Australian Baseball League in 2013,
McGrath has spent the last seven seasons
in the Red Sox organization, going 35-35
with a 3.62 ERA in 166 appearances
(107 starts). He spent most of 2019
with Double-A Portland, also making
his Triple-A debut with Pawtucket. The
left-hander posted the lowest ERA (1.98)
among qualifying Red Sox minor leaguers,
going 7-1 with a .199 opponent batting
average and a 1.09 WHIP in 29 outings (16
starts). From June 16-July 31, he pitched
41.2 consecutive innings without allowing
an earned run between Portland and
Pawtucket. He also pitched 1.2 innings of
relief during Portland’s combined no-hitter
on April 25, 2019 at Binghamton.
Denyi REYES
RHP | 79 | Born: 11/2/96
in San Cristobal, DR
After being named the Red Sox’ Minor
League Pitcher of the Year in 2018,
Denyi made his Double-A debut in 2019
and spent the entire season with the
Portland Sea Dogs. The right-hander
went 8-12 with a 4.16 ERA, leading
the club in starts (26), innings, and
strikeouts (116) and ranking second
among Double-A pitchers in innings
(151.1). Signed by Boston as an
international free agent in 2014, the
Dominican native is 40-19 with a 2.76
ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, 402 strikeouts, and
only 70 walks in 92 appearances (67
starts) over five seasons in the Red Sox
organization.

Jantzen WITTE
3B/1B | #68 | Born: 1/4/90
in Arlington, TX
Fans at JetBlue Park will likely
recognize the name Jantzen Witte, as
he has been a regular minor league
call-up during Grapefruit League
games in recent years. Now on the
major league side of camp, Witte was
selected by Boston in the 24th round
of the 2013 June Draft and has spent
his entire career in the Red Sox minor
league system, batting .273 with
44 home runs and a .348 on-base
percentage in 661 games, including
.261 with 15 home runs in 321 games
with Triple-A Pawtucket. In 2019 he
batted .271 with 22 doubles and nine
home runs. In his career, Witte has
made 341 starts at third base, 221 at
first base, 34 at second base, and 12 in
left field. He also made the first pitching
appearance of his career in 2019.
