MINOR DETAILS
This year, the Red Sox have invited to
Major League Spring Training camp 26
players not on the club’s 40-man roster.
Among the group are eight prospects
drafted by—or originally signed by—
the Red Sox, looking for their first taste
of the Major Leagues in 2020.
Roldani BALDWIN
C | #91 | Born: 3/16/96
in Puerto Plata, DR
Roldani Baldwin will be looking to
resume a normal baseball schedule
after he spent the entire 2019
season on the injured list. The righthanded
hitting catcher broke his
ankle during minor league spring
training last year and did not play in
a game until late August, appearing
in rehabilitation games with the
Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red
Sox and Short-A Lowell. He showed
significant promise in his previous
two seasons, as he was named
a 2017 South Atlantic League
mid-season All-Star with Single-A
Greenville and a 2018 Carolina
League mid-season All-Star with
High-A Salem. In 357 career minor
league games, Baldwin has hit .268
with 33 home runs. The Dominican
native has thrown out 89 of 269
(33.1%) attempted base stealers,
including 24 of 53 (45.3%) with
Salem in 2018.
Jarren DURAN
OF | #92 | Born: 9/5/96
in Corona, CA
The fastest Red Sox player in Major
League Spring Training camp this
year might be newcomer Jarren
Duran, who spent the 2019 season
with High-A Salem and Double-A
Portland and was named the
organization’s Minor League Base
Runner of the Year. Between the
two clubs last season, the lefthanded
batter hit a combined .303
with 24 doubles, eight triples, and
five home runs, while 46 stolen
bases led Red Sox minor leaguers.
At the time he was promoted
to Portland on June 3, Duran
was leading all of Minor League
Baseball with a .387 batting
average. He racked up the awards,
including Baseball America’s High
Class A Player of the Year honor.
Selected by Boston in the seventh
round of the 2018 June Draft,
Duran has hit .322 with 70 steals
in 199 minor league games.
Tanner HOUCK
RHP | #89 | Born: 6/29/96
in St. Louis, MO
Tanner Houck could find his way
to the majors in 2020, either as
a starting pitcher or as a reliever.
He split the 2019 season between
Double-A Portland and Triple-A
Pawtucket and was named an
Eastern League mid-season All-
Star. The right-hander made 33
appearances (17 starts) and went
8-6 with a 4.01 ERA, and in his
final 16 appearances for Pawtucket
he posted a 3.24 ERA with a
.209 opponent batting average.
Following the regular season, he
made six starts for Peoria in the
Arizona Fall League, then joined
teammates C.J. Chatham and
Bobby Dalbec on Team USA in
the WBSC Premier12 tournament.
Selected by Boston in the first
round of the 2017 June Draft,
Houck is 15-20 with a 4.08
ERA in 66 career minor league
appearances, including 50 starts.

Nick LONGHI

team that drafted him. Selected
by Boston in the 30th round of the
2013 June Draft, he began his
career with the Red Sox before
being traded to the Reds on July 2,
2017. The right-handed batter has
split his career between the Red
Sox (2013-17) and Reds (2017-19)
minor league systems, batting .275
