From throwing the Red Sox’ only shutout of the 2017 season, to logging
valuable innings out of the bullpen, Brian Johnson has been a key member
of Boston’s pitching staff in the last three seasons. He made his second
consecutive Opening Day roster with the Red Sox in 2019 but missed a
majority of the season on the injured list. Selected by Boston in the first
round of the 2012 June Draft, Johnson is 7-9 with a 4.74 ERA in 65 career
appearances (26 starts). Following the 2018 season, he earned the Boston
Baseball Writers’ Unsung Hero Award for his contributions to the World
Series Championship club.

BORN: July 16, 1991 in Phoenix, AZ
Once the Philadelphia Phillies’ primary first baseman, Tommy Joseph is
looking to get back to the majors after spending most of the 2019 season
playing in Korea. He began last season with the LG Twins of the Korean
Baseball Organization before signing with the Red Sox as a minor league
free agent on August 1. Originally selected by the San Francisco Giants
in the second round of the 2009 June Draft, the right-handed hitter’s lone
major league experience came from 2016-17 with the Phillies, when he
played in 249 games and hit .247 with 43 home runs, homering 21 times in
2016 and 22 times in 2017.
MIKE KICKHAM | LHP | #74
BORN: December 12, 1988 in St. Louis, MO
Mike Kickham attended spring training in 2019 as a non-roster invitee
with the Miami Marlins but spent the entire season with their Triple-A New
Orleans affiliate. He went 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA in 18 relief outings, compared
to 1-4 with a 4.53 ERA in 13 starts. Selected by San Francisco in the
sixth round of the 2010 June Draft, Kickham has made 14 major league
appearances (three starts), all with the Giants from 2013-14. In his minor
league career, he has made 141 starts and 54 relief appearances, posting a
4.06 ERA in the Giants (2010-14, ’16), Mariners (2015), Rangers (2015), and
Marlins (2017-19) organizations.

BORN: December 15, 1990 in Mountain View, CA
Right-handed sidearmer Trevor Hildenberger made at least 20 major league
appearances for the Twins in each of the last three seasons, including a
career-high 73 in 2018. Selected by Minnesota in the 22nd round of the
2014 June Draft, he is 9-11 with a 5.35 ERA in 132 major league relief
appearances during his career. Having made the Twins’ Opening Day roster
in 2018 and 2019, Hildenberger split the 2019 season between Minnesota
(22 games) and Triple-A Rochester (14 games). In 141 career minor league
outings—all in relief—he has posted a dominant 1.90 ERA.
