Alright, y’all! If you are an avid reader, you will realize this is the second
time I have written about this particular person, but I can’t get enough
of him! You’ve heard the phrase, ‘when they walk into a room, every
head turns.’ Well, when Travis Isreal walks into a room, the crowd goes
berserk! I had a scheduled meeting with him and I had my back to the
door. When he walked in, I didn’t even have to turn around to know who
it was as the bar went nuts trying to get to him! Everyone wants a piece
of this absolute light up your life, joyful person who literally changes the
vibe up in the room! I’ve never seen him down or unhappy. Always smiling
and just looking at him makes you want to smile no matter what is on your
mind. Travis is the whole package of just a good people with good heart!
Let me tell you more!
He is waaayyyyy old school Tybee! He is so old school that he worked
at Strickland’s Grocery as a kid. Strickland’s was where the Atlantic Co-Op
used to be. Or for the real newbies, it’s across from the Park of 7 Flags.
That was his first job when he was in third grade and he started mopping
the floors. His mom, Carol, was the first through third grade teacher at
what is now the ‘old school cafeteria’ and his dad, Carl, was the head of
maintenance at the retirement center. Dad was in the Coast Guard and
was very much involved in Tybee and her history. He instilled that in his
kid and having Mom as your teacher makes sure you don’t get into any
trouble!!!
Travis has worked at a variety of places growing up, including MacElwee’s,
starting as a dishwasher, then cooking and then on to The Hunter House as
a cook. He also worked as a lifeguard at the waterslide! In 1994, he joined
the Coast Guard and was a Machinery Tech until 2001. After he got out,
he traveled for a minute just figuring out life. It wasn’t too many years that
passed that he returned to Tybee and started working at Sundae Café. He
then moved on to North Beach Grill bartending and even did a stint with
Dan/Chad at Bernie’s (if y’all know, y’all know about that).
In 2018, Travis got onto A-J’s and here we are.
I asked Travis the Questions of Life:
Passion: Football is the only thing that speaks to me … and my
mom!
When I grow up: I just want to talk shit and have my balls swinging.
I am Tybee Pride!
Future: Grow old gracefully, flirting and killing it.
Spirit Animal: Wolf. No explanation required.
Travis’ go-to drink for both himself and for you is a bottle of Miller High
Life and a shot of Jameson. Sounds pretty good to me!
Get your beer and shot on with Travis at A-J’s. I’m telling you that man
will change your whole unhappy attitude or just make you happier! You
can’t resist that smile!
