The Funny Thing
about Florida
In The Thing about Florida: Exploring
a Misunderstood State, author Tyler
Gillespie tells witty Florida stories about
this misunderstood part of the United
States that juts out of the eastern side
of our country. The author’s clever
narrative combines history, his own
personal experiences and the memories
of other Floridians to paint a portrait that
is much more realistic of Florida than its
media image. The book, which will be
published by University Press of Florida
this spring, can be ordered at upf.com.
Stephanie Gularte will be directing
Footloose: The Musical for American Stage in
Demens Landing Park in St. Petersburg.

Kia’s Electric Vehicles
Kia Motors Corporation is removing
“Motors” from its corporate name, as
it prepares to focus on battery electric
vehicles with plans to introduce seven
new passenger/SUV and MPV vehicles
by 2027. Each of these new models will
incorporate industry-leading technology
for long-range driving and high speed charging. Kia will reveal its shifting focus
toward electrification this spring with a crossover-inspired model that can be
charged in under 20 minutes and that will have a range of over 500 kilometers
(310.686 miles). Six more all electric models will be developed over the next five
years, along with a range of purpose-built vehicles to meet the needs of fleet
customers. The new Kia electric models will be seen at Friendly Kia in New Port
Richey when they arrive in the United States.
