Jono Miller, former director of the
environmental studies program at
New College in Sarasota, has written
The Palmetto Book, which is
completely dedicated to this plant,
also called cabbage palm or sabal
palm. It is the state tree of Florida
and is the subject of a multitude of
myths and truths. Miller separates one
from the other in this tome filled with
research and emotion, telling what he
has learned about these native Florida
plants. The book is published by the
University Press of Florida.
Bill Rigney, who has been part of
the San Francisco Bay area roots
music scene more than 35 years.

composer whose band Flambeau is
known for its original, emotionally
