It’s refreshing to find a quality neighborhood
butcher shop with the foresight
and courage to buck the chain trend.
Newly opened, Southern Steer
Butcher is the brainchild of two
boyhood friends, Dave La Gree
and Eric La Fluer who often
reminisced about the
culinary advantages
of having grown
up in an area that
was home to several
quality butcher
shops. Recently,
they partnered with
local native Greg Snyder, Managing
Partner who brought over 25 years of
professional hospitality experience to
the team. The three gentlemen share an
equal passion for quality, service and an
enjoyment of bringing an extensive line
of quality Butcher and specialty food
products to the local public.
Greg says, “what I continue to enjoy
about the hospitality industry is that it is
always evolving, never stagnant”, adding,
“I have a genuine desire to please the
public”. If the measure of his success to
date is gauged by the positive remarks of
his present customers then he is accomplishing
his mission.
I personally have
tasted several
products from
Southern Steer
Butcher and I
can honestly say
that it won’t
take long
before everyone in the North Pinellas
area will be stopping by to pick up
steaks, chicken, marinated meats, pork,
homemade sausage, etc.
Beef and poultry lovers should not
miss the Marinated Steak Tips and
Marinated Chicken. I promise the
steak that I cooked on my home grill
was absolutely tender and delicious!
These folks are the only ones
in the state of Florida who uses a
“vacuum tumbler” process to infuse
the various marinades in to their
meats, which results in a full bodied,
flavorful, and tender
mouth-water- ing
experience. The
meats are all natural,
no chemi- cals
or hormones. There
are nine differ- ent
marinades for steak
tips, ranging from
Sweet Asian Chili and
Teriyaki to Caribbe- an and
Cajun. They also marinate Chicken in
homemade marinates like Garlic and
Cheese, Jamaican Jerk, Cajun, Kick’n
Margarita and Buffalo, to name a few.
The steaks are cut by hand, the
way neighborhood butchers used to
cut them. They have the ability to
custom cut roasts, steaks, etc. to any
size thickness or special requests, one
might expect on any beef product as part
of their exceptional customer service.
No neighborhood butcher would be
complete without fresh sausage and these
folks have them in spades! Take your
pick from 12 varieties like Italian, Brats,
Chorizo, Apple Cinnamon Pork, etc. I
put a couple of what I would consider
more exotic on my BBQ at home
and I was not let down when I
took my first bite in to the
Chicken Florentine and
Chicken Broccoli sausages.
Excellent rich but not
overpowering flavor, texture
and aroma. There are
also numerous cuts of pork
and a wide tasty variety of homemade
dishes such as Smoked Fish Dip, Buffalo
Chicken Dip (goes well on pretzels, chips
and celery) and a host of specialty items
i.e. imported olive oils, pasta,
gluten free items, marinades,
etc.
They carry an
impres- sive plethora
of local food supplier’s
products
ranging from
seafood to produce
and desserts. They stock
international and domestic wines sold
at moderate prices as well as over 100
different hand selected craft beers.
