Irene Oria Named President for the Hispanic
National Bar Association (HNBA)
With over 18 years of experience

multi-district litigation, Irene Oria has been
named president for the Hispanic National
Bar Association.
Oria represents domestic and international
public and private companies and individual officers
and directors in contract-related and business tort
disputes; international litigation and arbitration
matters involving cross-border parties and issues;
insurer side complex insurance coverage and
bad faith disputes, including director and officer
liability matters; accounting negligence and
other professional negligence defense; corporate
governance disputes; SEC, Florida Attorney General
and other state and federal regulatory investigations;
white-collar defense matters including civil and
criminal RICO actions; securities fraud actions
alleging violations of state and federal securities
laws; employer side employment-related disputes
including employment discrimination matters;
litigation involving the worlds of entertainment and
sports; first amendment and other constitutional
litigation; product liability disputes; intellectual
property disputes, particularly patent infringement
actions; real estate and construction litigation
matters; antitrust litigation; and False Claims Act and
Qui Tam actions.
Oria routinely represents financial institutions
and insurance companies in a myriad of financial and
insurance fraud investigations as well as litigation and
arbitration matters, particularly matters related to the
Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practice Act
(FDUTPA) and the Florida Securities and Investor
Protection Act.
Before FisherBroyles LLP, Oria served as an
Assistant United States Attorney in the United States
Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida
(Miami).
Governor Newsom Appoints San Jose
SPUR’s Teresa Alvarado to California
Water Commission
Teresa Alvarado of San Jose, California
has been appointed to the California
Water Commission. Alvarado has been
San Jose director of SPUR since 2016.
She was deputy administrative officer
for the Santa Clara Valley Water District
from 2011 to 2016 and executive
director of the Hispanic Foundation of
Silicon Valley from 2006 to 2009.
Alvarado held multiple positions at
the Pacific Gas and Electric Company,
including charitable contributions program
manager from 2005 to 2006 and governmental relations representative
from 1999 to 2005. As a member of the California Water Commission,
Alvarado will help advise the Department of Water Resources, which
manages the state’s water usage. The commission also monitors the State
Water Project, the nation’s largest user-financed water delivery system
which serves more than 27 million people in Northern California and
irrigates about 750,000 acres of farmland in the Central Valley.
She previously served on the Bay Conservation and Development
Commission (BCDC) and chaired its Environmental Justice Commissioner
Working Group. She is a member of the City of San Jose’s Diridon Station
Area Advisory Group and is also co-chair of the City of San Jose's Envision
San Jose 2040 General Plan Four-Year Review Task Force.
Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG)
has promoted music industry veteran Olga
Cardona to Vice President, Administration
and Marketing, Latin Music. In this role,
Cardona will oversee the administration
and marketing in Latin America and be
responsible for driving increased exposure
of UMPG’s Latin songwriter roster on
social channels.
Based in Miami, she will continue to
report to Alexandra Lioutikoff, UMPG
President for Latin America and U.S. Latin,
and will work closely with the company’s
Global Administration team in Nashville, as
well as with UMPG’s North American and
European Marketing teams.
Since joining UMPG in 2007 through the acquisition of BMG Music
Publishing, Cardona has been responsible for the company’s Latin catalogs.
“Olga’s passion for administration is invaluable,” said Lioutikoff. “I’ve known
her for a long time and her vast experience and outstanding dedication make
her an integral asset to our team. I couldn’t be prouder of her achievements and
look forward to her continued success.”
Cardona is a member of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences;
the Songwriters Hall of Fame; Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame; She Is The Music;
NAFE and serves as the Vice-Chair of Membership for Women in Music’s Miami
chapter.
