“I believe there is so much value
in community college. ACM provided
me with a great college experience.”
-Michael Kerns ’16, ’17
College wasn’t on the forefront of Michael Kerns’ mind until an injury
sidelined the former City of Cumberland Fire Lieutenant in 2014. That’s
when Kerns decided to turn his side business into a full-time career.
He enrolled in Business Management courses at ACM, taking the
majority of his coursework online.
One of the first recipients of the Allegany County Opportunity
Scholarship program, Kerns earned three associate degrees
(Business Management, Business Administration, and
Accounting) while president of both the Student Government
Association and campus chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa
International Honor Society. His degrees helped him grow
and manage Faith, Hope, & Images, a personalized printing,
embroidery, and promotional items business. Kerns, a
dedicated ACM alum, is an active community volunteer.
