Program
This evidence-based, Stanford
University program provides a variety
of tools. The program consists of six,
two-hour weekly sessions. Participants
must be age 60 or older. Lectures are
from certified instructors, so join the
group discussion.

A Matter of Balance
This evidence-based, Boston University
program helps to manage falls and
increase activity levels. The program
consists of eight, two-hour sessions
to include lecture from certified
instructors, group discussion and
exercises. Participants must be age 60
or older. They also must attend the first
session and be willing to attend the
majority of classes in the program.

Diabetes Self-Management
This evidence-based, Stanford
University program helps those
struggling with diabetes. The program
consists of six, 2 ½-hour sessions
to include lecture from certified
instructors and group discussion.
Subjects include:
• Healthy eating and menu planning
• Managing blood glucose
• Techniques to deal with problems
such as fatigue, frustration and
isolation
• Appropriate exercise for managing
blood glucose and for maintaining
and improving strength, flexibility
and endurance
• Appropriate use of medications
• Communicating effectively
with family, friends and health
professionals
• Setting goals
• Disease-related problem solving

Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance
This evidence-based program consists
of eight single forms in this program
derived from the traditional, 24-form
Yang Style Tai Chi. This class is tailored
to adults who have concerns about
falling and wish to improve balance
and mobility. This one-hour class
is held twice weekly for 12 weeks.
Participants must be age 60 or older.

Enhance® Fitness
In partnership with the YMCA of the
Suncoast, this evidence-based group
exercise program uses simple, easyto
learn movements that motivate
individuals (particularly those with
arthritis) to stay active. Each session
includes cardiovascular, strength
training, balance and flexibility
exercises. It is provided by Pinellas
County Social Action Funding.
Participants must be age 55 or older.
This one-hour class is held three times
weekly for 16 weeks.

Modalities
Explore a variety of methods to
improve health, increase well-being and
happiness. Class sizes are limited. Call
the center to register.
Eastern Modalities
Various instructors provide information
on these ancient arts and demonstrate
techniques that may relieve tension,
promote vitality and improve
well-being: chakras, meditation,
mindfulness, aromatherapy, essential
oils and crystals.
