ACCOUNTABILITY
APPLICATION
It can be hard to open ourselves up to
others, especially if we have been hurt by
someone in the past. Accountability takes
an incredible amount of trust in others and
in God, but it also opens the door for us to
grow as people. In addition to giving others
permission to speak truth into our lives,
it’s about making ourselves responsible to
those around us. Healthy accountability
begins with three things: trust, Biblical
truth, and mutual commitment. We must
trust our accountability partners enough
to open ourselves up to their guidance and
correction without losing sight of their love
for us. God’s word must be the foundation
and every conversation must come back
to Biblical truth. Finally, we must learn to
serve others by honoring the commitments
we make to them. Accountability is not
always a comfortable habit to maintain, but
it does open us up to significant personal
growth like few other things can.
