mean, yes, we denitely have the focus on the part that
we’re all females, but what I really like about it is that we’re
all females who want to be known as drivers rst.”
At the season-opening Rolex 24, the #57 Heinricher Racing/
MSR Acura remained in the thick of the GTD ght,
with Legge taking the NSX GT3 Evo into third place as
the sun set and her teammates keeping the car near the
front of the eld through the night. But with the morning
came heavy rain, leading to track flooding, reduced visibility
and an eventual early nish to the race.
One of many cars to slide off course in the diabolical conditions,
the #57 Acura lost time in the garage for repairs
and was listed 13th in the 23-car GTD eld when the second
of two red flags came out just after 12:30 p.m., effectively
ending the race.
Although the Rolex 24 result was not reflective of the
team’s true pace, the teamwork and strength that
was produced was exemplary, and left everyone optimistic
for this weekend’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of
Sebring.
“We ran a respectable, hard-fought race at Daytona,”
Heinricher said at the nish. “I’m really proud of this
team. The accomplishment of the partnership and
the amazing camaraderie and the inspiration that’s
spreading way beyond pit lane – bodes well for us for
Sebring and the rest of the season.”
“I am so proud of all of these women for what they
have accomplished so far, and the best is yet to come,”
Shank says. “The positive response from the fans to this
effort has been overwhelming, and we have a lot more to
show for the rest of the season.”
Jackie Heinricher, successful business woman and racer,
heads the Heinricher Racing with Meyer Shank Racing effort.
The driver lineup for the Caterpillar-sponsored Acura
at Sebring is expected to include (from left): Katherine
Legge, Christina Nielsen and Bia Figueiredo.
Several all female teams have competed at
Sebring since the 1960s, perhaps the most notable
was the 1970 team (below) of Rosemary Smith,
Janet Guthrie, Judy Kondratieff and Sharlene
of Guthrie, Donna Mae Mims and Liane Engeman
(above). In 1983, Kathy Rude, Bonnie Henn and
Deborah Gregg drove a Brumos entered Porsche
at Sebring.
