In 2012, the very first FIA WEC race saw a podium finish for an LMP2
prototype; the Honda HPD of the American team Starworks Motorsport, who
won their class title at the end of the opening season. Could we see a similar
performance on Friday, March 15th for the first time as part of the Super Season?
Such a result would be, if it were needed, a further indisputable sign of the level of
competitiveness of this category.
The three-way battle will continue under the Florida sun between the two ORECA 07s
of Jackie Chan DC Racing and the Signatech Alpine Matmut A470, only separated
by 14 points at the top of the provisional general classification of the FIA Endurance
Trophies for Drivers and Teams in LMP2.
The only team involved in both prototype categories - and also in the history of the FIA
WEC, the first American team to be present in LMP1 - DragonSpeed aim to mark their
home race with a first LMP2 victory, while TDS Racing and Racing Team Nederland will
aim for a first podium which would put them at the forefront of the category.
