On the eve o f the 1000 Miles of Sebring, Porsche are strong leaders in
the standing s for both manufacturers and drivers GT World Endurance
Championships. However, in the pursuit of the 911 RSR, there is currently a battle
between Ford, Ferrari and Aston Martin, grouped together on 11 points with a win
each. The newcomer still in the learning phase is BMW on a steady upward trajectory
with a podium at Fuji and the fastest time in the category in qualifying for the 6 Hours
of Shanghai. So will the deck be shuffled at Sebring and in the last two rounds of the
Super Season?
Like the round at Shanghai, the 1000 miles of Sebring is a special event for these
big names in high-end sports GTs, given the importance of the US market. For Ford,
besides the special joy of a win at home, the stakes are high: Stefan Mücke and Olivier
Pla, the drivers of the Ford GT #66 (68 points), are the closest rivals to leaders Kevin
Estre and Michael Christensen (Porsche GT Team, 111 points).
Looking at t he results of the five rounds so far of the Super Season, the
LMGTE Am cat egory is undoubtedly the most unpredictable, especially
with the presence of two newcomers in the top three. For their first season
at this leve l, Porsche 911 specialists Team Project 1 lead the provisional general
classification of which third place is occupied by TF Sport, whose Aston Martin has
made a remarkable entry into the FIA WEC. The “Doyenne” of this grid, the Aston Martin
Vantage GTE is more than ever a candidate for the FIA LMGTE Am Endurance Trophy.
In addition to TF Sport, the defending champions Pedro Lamy, Paul Dalla Lana and
Mathias Lauda (Aston Martin Racing ) are second, 20 points behind Team Project 1.
In the top 5, Ferrari also remains in the race, with Clearwater Racing and Spirit of Race.
For Porsche, still looking for their first FIA LMGTE Am Endurance Trophy, the road is
still long and the fight will be tough, but the German manufacturer can rely not only
on Team Project 1, but also on Dempsey-Proton Racing, winner of the category at
Le Mans, and Gulf Racing in the fight for the podium and victory. In LMGTE Am as in
LMP1, LMP2 and LMGTE Pro, the outcome of 1000 Miles of Sebring will be decided
by pace, diversity ... and the uncertainties of racing!
