Clothes To Kids of Haywood County opened their
doors in 2013 with a mission to “provide new and
quality used clothing free of charge to low-income
or in crisis school-age students (Pre K – 12th grade).”
Sylvia, local co-founder of Clothes To Kids, explains,
“When we first started, all we were giving out was
white socks. That’s what everybody wore until
students came in and said, “No, we’re wearing black
socks now.” We learn from them.” Clothes To Kids
partners with the Social Workers of Haywood County

are on a free and/or reduced lunch plan (currently
over 50% of the student population in the county)
to the Clothes To Kids shop where they can choose
3 complete outfits twice a year (3 tops, 3 bottoms,
a dress for girls, 3 pairs of new socks, 3 pairs of
new underwear, a jacket, a pair of shoes and a few
accessories). “Clothes To Kids provides a wonderful
opportunity for children who don’t have all of the
advantages to be able to have clothes to wear to
school so that they feel special. The clothing
improves their self esteem every day,
