Yes, it’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving has always been a very
important holiday to me. Our family is so scattered all over the country and
it’s the one holiday that we have always strived to spend together. There
is something special about spending this day with family or friends, and
it truly does make you thankful for the people who are most important in
your life.
But when the turkey is all gone and the holiday is over, how can you
keep that feeling of thankfulness in your heart? Sometimes we all forget
to be grateful for the blessings in our lives. But actually, it’s a pretty simple
thing to do. Here are some ways I’ve come up with to keep that feeling of
thankfulness year round:
1. Show your gratitude. Pretty simple. If someone does something nice
for you, saying thank you goes a long way. It’s a “feel good moment” for
both the giver and the recipient. You never know how important these two
little words are.
2. Try to do one (or more) good deed a day. There are lots of ways to do
this. You can give the gift of time to someone who may need you; help a
colleague; write a thank you note; buy a gift for a loved one; let someone
cut in front of you at the cashier’s line; and yes, help the little old lady
across the street. Any little thing you can do for others will not only make
them feel special, but yourself as well.
3. Show affection. The human touch is such a powerful instrument. Often
we forget to show our affection to the people who are most important to
us. Hug someone you love today and let them know you care. It will make
you both feel good.
4. Smile. Smiles are contagious. Share yours with someone and I bet they
will give one back. Better yet, laugh!
5. Learn to say yes. So many opportunities are lost by saying no. Don’t be
one of those who sit and let Life pass you by. Say yes next time someone
invites you to do something. You might just have the time of your life!
6. Take time for yourself. Learn how to slow down and relax. Enjoy some
solitude and quiet time.
7. Find joy in the little things. The best things in life are free! Take a walk,
visit friends, and enjoy the beauty of this world.
8. Think positive thoughts. Bad things happen to all of us. How you choose
to deal with a bad situation can define who you are. Instead of complaining
about it, learn from it. No one enjoys being around negative people.
9. Learn to forgive. We have all been hurt by someone we care about.
You can choose to hold on to the anger and resentment or you can choose
forgiveness. By choosing forgiveness you will find peace, hope, gratitude
and joy.
10. Celebrate Life! Wake up each morning and greet the day with a smile.
Be thankful that you are alive and have been given another day. Remember
that a good Life is when you smile often, laugh a lot, love much, and realize
how blessed you are for what you have.
So start practicing the art of thankfulness and gratitude today! Happy
Thanksgiving!

Worrell 1000 Race 2021
Although the Worrell 1000 Reunion Race completed this past May seemed
like a “small” event to some, fans the world over followed the 2 ½ week
event closely, with social media activity recording 1000s of engagements,
posts, likes and shares daily- even weeks after the fleet safely crossed
the finish line. The chatter on the official Facebook page has continued
with keen anticipation of information for the 2021 event. Sailors from
around the world weighed in on what boats they felt should be invited, and
how they would like to see race formatted. Most importantly – MANY are
clamoring to be a part of the next event. The Organizing Authority has been
working on the new NoR and the wait is over – its official – The Worrell
2021 Race is ON!!!!
As in previous years, the race will cover approximately 1000 miles with
overnight stops along the US East Coast. The start will be on Monday, May
3rd 2021, in Hollywood Beach, Florida, and the finish will be in Virginia
Beach on May 15th. The eligible boat class will be the very popular Formula
18 and will be limited to the first 15 official registrants with paid entry and
most importantly – acceptance by the Organizing Authority. This race is
no cake-walk. The weekend sailor unversed in off-shore sailing will NOT
be accepted. As many know from past events – this race can break not
only boats and bones, but spirits as well. For the safety of all – only the
most experienced will be allowed to compete. Address questions to the
Organizing Authority at OA@worrell1000race.org.
