Iwas born in Dallas, Texas, however, my
parents decided for our family to move to
Guanajuato, Mexico when I was 11
months old. Later on, when I was about to turn
four, they decided to move back to Dallas. I
was enrolled in school, but having lived in
Mexico the first years of my life hindered my
ability to speak English. It wasn’t until I
entered second grade that I was able to speak
it well. This experience only pushed me to
want to do better. I wanted to perfect my
English, and that is where my interest in
English and Language Arts began. I’ve always
had a passion for reading. Not only was it
entertaining, but I enjoyed observing the
rhetorical elements that writers use to deliver a
message because that is how I learned the
English language.
I also love learning new languages.
French is one of my favorites and it is my goal
to learn as many languages as possible.
After graduating from high school, I wasn’t
sure about what I wanted to major in, but I
knew I wanted to continue with my education
and make my parents proud. They have
sacrificed so much for me by leaving their
country, so I felt this was something I wanted
to do it for them.
My college journey began at Richland
College, I then transferred to Texas Woman’s
University where I finally chose English as my
major and education as my minor. I’ll admit, I
was intimidated at first because everything was
new to me. I sometimes felt out of place, but I
kept going because it was something that I
truly enjoyed. The more I progressed, the more
confident I felt about my decision, and I can
now say I picked the right major. I have
learned so much, and I have learned to know
myself and what I am capable of. During
my college years, I also received a few
scholarships, which I am truly thankful for.
Initially, my minor was in education but I
decided to switch to political science. Reading
about social injustice and also going over
many different ideologies and philosophies in
my English courses is how I was influenced to
choose political science over education.

I then thought about my future career. I
was no longer thinking about teaching. My
career decisions have shifted to Public
Relations or Social Media. I looked for
internship opportunities to gain experience,
and that is when I came across the Social
Media & Marketing Internship at LATINA
Style.
My experience at LATINA Style has been
phenomenal. It is a nice environment to work
and learn in and everyone is so kind. I’m
always looking forward to going, and that
made me realize that I want to work in social
media.
At LATINA Style, I help create content for
multiple social media platforms, from creating
visuals to writing captions and doing research
as well. I have also had the opportunity to edit
their social media guidelines, and as an English
major, I truly appreciate that. This has been a
wonderful experience, and I am excited to
keep working hard for what I want because I
am leaving more inspired than ever! LS
