Visitors will make memories as they chill on the Relaxahatchee Lazy River or take a few laps in the geothermally
heated competition pool. Enjoy a sweet treat from the Sand Dollar Snack Shack, where you can also pick up
forgotten essentials such as swim diapers or sunblock. Earn your stripes on the Barracuda Blast drop slide or just
let the kids splash the day away on the Pelican Splashground.
The Aquatic Center opened in the Fall of 2019. It is home to a 516,507-gallon competition pool. Designed to
feel like a neighborhood pool; it is family friendly, surrounded with shade covering and lounge chairs. A bulkhead
in the middle of the competition pool allows separation from the deeper water and with five “parking spaces”
the bulkhead bladders can be filled with air and the divider can be moved to meet lane length requirements for
different competitions.
The competition pool is also equipped with a state-of-the-art scoreboard and timing system. Large locker
rooms are also available on site, as are individual restrooms equipped with showers along our cool breezeway.
A large rentable pavilion provides shade over picnic tables nearby a small, well-appointed concession, named
the Sand Dollar Snack Shack, that offers all the items you would want during a pool visit on a hot day. From
a seat in the shade, parents can keep a close eye on children enjoying the Pelican Splashground, a zero-entry
splash pad equipped with bubblers, slides, spray activities and a bucket that dumps ninety gallons of water every
two minutes.
Just past the Splashground is the area’s only lazy river. To pay homage to the neighboring Myakkahatchee
Creek, the lazy river has been named the Relaxahatchee. A lagoon at the end of the Relaxahatchee features a
floating crossing activity with six brightly colored floating aquatic animals and an overhead cargo net. Patrons
float past in large clear tubes, provided for use onsite, under spraying jets and bubbling palm trees. The lazy
river keeps community in mind with a cove appointed with bench seating to spur conversation, further down
the lazy river is a shallow sunning platform and overhead lazy river guests can see neighbors and friends flying
through clear slide tunnels.
The over 50-foot-tall slide tower holds the highlight of the facility. Being the tallest structure in North Port,
residents get an outstanding view of the entire park, adjacent schools, Myakkahatchee Creek and a good portion
of the city. Access to two slides, named the Dolphin Dive and Tarpon Twister, is at the first platform, and those
slides empty into the Relaxahatchee. Unique to this area is the drop slide, named the Barracuda Blast. Brave
patrons enter a capsule and wait for the countdown to finish, the floor to fall away and in three seconds are
circling a champagne bowl at the end of the slide. This slide does not empty into water, as after patrons stop
circling, they simply walk down a spiral staircase, which means they do not need to be a strong swimmer to enjoy
the slide – just a brave one. A second bathhouse along the northern edge of the facility provides close access to
restroom for all patrons.
The North Port Aquatic Center is a family-friendly facility. It is operated by the Parks & Recreation
Department and a team of highly trained staff who are eager to make every person’s visit an outstanding
experience. Additionally, the Aquatic Center hosts a wide variety of programs and activities that appeal to various
