Local Government
The City of North Port has a City Commission/City
Manager form of government. This system combines the
political leadership of elected officials in the form of a City
Commission with the managerial experience of a City
Manager. The City Commission is the legislative body
empowered to make decisions by the citizens who elect its
members and hires and supervises the four charter officers:
City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk and Deputy City
Clerk.
City Hall is located at 4970 City Hall Boulevard (off of
Sumter Boulevard, near the intersection of Sumter and Price
Boulevards). The North Port Police Department, located at
4980 City Hall Blvd., is our local law enforcement agency,
fire and ambulatory services are provided by North Port Fire
Rescue. Services outside of the City limits are provided by
Sarasota County Sheriff ’s Department, Sarasota County
Fire Department, and the Florida Highway Patrol. The
City of North Port is located in Sarasota County, which also
has a commission administration form of government. Five
districts throughout the county elect a commissioner to a
four-year term.
