Driver’s License and Vehicle Registration
Florida requires that you obtain or update the address
on your driver’s license within 30 days of moving. Also,
your vehicle must be registered within 30 days of becoming
employed, establishing residency, or placing a child in public
schools.
To obtain a driver’s license or register a vehicle, visit the
Sarasota County Tax Collector located in the R. L. Anderson
Building, 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, FL 34293, Monday
to Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. & Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:30
p.m., or at North Port City Hall, 4970 City Hall Boulevard,
North Port, FL 34286, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 8:30
a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For additional Tax Collector locations, visit

To register a vehicle, please bring:
1. The current vehicle registration
2. The vehicle title unless it is held by a lienholder
3. Proof of Florida insurance
4. The vehicle for verification of the identification number
5. All owners to sign the Florida title application

To obtain a driver’s license, please bring:
1. Your valid out-of-state driver’s license (there is also a
vision test)
2. U.S. Passport or certified U.S. Birth Certificate
• If your current name is different than the name on the
document above, a government issued or certified copy
of the legal name change document is also required.
3. Proof of social security number – social security card,
W-2 form or 1099 showing the entire number
4. Two proofs of your residential address – recent bank
statement, utility bill, rental agreement, Florida vehicle
or vessel registration
