COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
It is a pleasure to present to our community the 17th annual Report to the People. Before proceeding, I would like to take the opportunity to share the
accomplishments of our Public Health Department, with support from many other county agencies, during the global COVID-19 pandemic.
In May given the lack of COVID testing available in our community, the County’s Health Department started a drive-thru clinic so our citizens would have
convenient access to testing. The COVID testing site at the Stanly Commons remained in place for close to eight (8) months and conducted a total of
4,394 COVID tests. Since early January 2021, the County’s Health Dept. has transitioned to COVID vaccine distribution. Between early January and
early March, over 6,000 residents received their 1st dose of the COVID vaccine and over 2,500 received their 2nd dose at the County’s drive-thru vaccine
clinic.

• Secured over $5 million in water and sewer grant funding to assist with attracting Charlotte Pipe to Oakboro
• Maintained the tax rate for the 14th consecutive year
• Increased operational funding to the local school system to enhance instructional resources

• Started the architectural design for a new 30,000 square foot trades based educational facility on the campus of Stanly Community College to
enhance training for electrical wiring, HVAC technicians, plumbing, carpentry, machining, welding, auto repair and auto mechanics
• Awarded the construction contract for rehabilitation of the West Stanly Waste Water Treatment Plant in order to meet the growth demands in western
